Gaston County contains the following watershed boundaries: WSII Protected, WSII Critical, WSIII Protected, WSIV Protected, WSIV Critical.<\/div>
Protected areas are defined as extending up stream from normal pool elevation of the intake for a distance not less than 5 miles or to the ridge line of the intake watershed. Critical areas are defined as extending not less than 5 miles up stream of the intake at normal pool elevation ort to the intake watershed ridge line.<\/div>

By Interlocal agreement Gaston County administers the surface watershed regulations in the unincorporated areas of Gaston County and the municipal areas of Bessemer City, Cherryville, Dallas, Kings Mountain, High Shoals, Ranlo and Stanley. Belmont and Mount Holly administer their own ordinance regulations.<\/div>

Watershed boundaries approved by the NC Department of Water Resources May 23,2007; approved by the Gaston County BOC July 26, 2007 - Effective date July 26, 2007.  All changes to surface water supply watershed boundaries are to be approved by the NC Department of Water Resources a division of NCDEQ NC Department of Environmental Quality.
